Walleye 101 | Fishing Education Weekend | November 7-10

Welcome to the Walleye 101, Fishing Education Weekend, aka F.E.W. 4 days of dedicated time to revisit the core principles that sparked our passion for angling.

This event is designed to reconnect you with the fundamental and advanced techniques of walleye fishing and enhance your skills through our tried-and-true Walleye 101 teaching methods. Each day is structured with specific objectives aimed at deepening your understanding of fishing practices, from essential depth control techniques to advanced trolling strategies.

Each day starts with a hearty breakfast and a few seminars on daily topics that will help you catch more fish that day. Then it is off to the water to go fishing, sharing information on the water with the rest of the attendees. We wind down our day with a “Wrap-up” seminar, an amazing dinner, then end the day with a featured seminar, focusing on the day’s fishing and planning for tomorrow!

Join us as we return to the roots of our fishing education journey and empower you with the knowledge to make every fishing day a successful one. Everyone is welcome, so if you are young or old, fishing guy or fishing girl, grab a fishing buddy, come by yourself or come with a group—just get there and enjoy four great days of fishing, fun, food and fishing education at the 2024 Walleye 101 Fishing Education Weekend!!

 

2024 FEW DAILY OBJECTIVES  

THURSDAY: Thursdays objectives are designed to help attendees to be prepared in boat, gear, and mind for a successful F.E.W experience. First, we will focus on an inspection to help prepare your boat and equipment, setting the stage for a smooth and efficient event. Understanding the Pre-Trip Planning step is crucial, as it lays the foundation for a well-organized fishing trip. Participants will learn about the essential tools used for effective pre-trip planning and delve into the process itself, gaining valuable insights into each stage. To reinforce this knowledge, the group will practice planning for Friday’s fishing together, culminating in the creation of a comprehensive fishing plan for the upcoming day. This structured approach will help ensure that everyone is equipped with the skills and confidence needed for a successful first day.

FRIDAY: Fridays objectives are sonar-focused and designed to enhance your skills and understanding of sonar technologies. We will start by learning how to interpret 2D sonar more effectively, gaining a clearer view of underwater environments. Then we explore techniques for reading sonar at high speeds, enabling quick and accurate assessments and decisions while on the move. This objective also includes training on interpreting SideScan sonar images, which provide detailed views of the underwater bottom and structures. Additionally, you will learn how to use sonar data to set up a trolling spread for your best fishing results. A foundational overview of Forward Facing Sonar will introduce this cutting-edge technology and basic applications. To solidify these concepts, participants will have the opportunity to practice using their sonar on the water and receive personalized feedback through an Friday evening Q&A session. This Walleye 101 approach ensures that you not only grasp an understanding and aspects of your electronics, but also gain practical experience with your equipment.

SATURDAY: Saturdays objectives: depth control focused sessions are centered on understanding and utilizing the art of lure depth management helping to enhance your on the water success. We will begin by exploring why precise lure depth is crucial for attracting fish and understanding the factors that influence it. Then we look at the essential tools required to accurately find and maintain the correct depth for your lures. Next, we will cover various methods of depth control, including their advantages and practical applications. On the water, you will have the chance to practice at least one new depth control technique, applying your knowledge in a real fishing environment. To wrap up, an evening Q&A session will provide additional insights and personalized feedback on depth control strategies, ensuring you leave with an understanding and the basic skills needed to effectively manage lure depth while chasing the walleye.

SUNDAY Sundays objectives: An important part of the Walleye 101 foundation, record-keeping, this is taught and designed to emphasize the critical role of maintaining accurate records for successful trip planning and fishing. We will start by discussing the importance of keeping detailed records, highlighting how they can significantly improve your pre-trip planning, fishing strategy and outcomes. Then a look at the various tools and techniques necessary for recording precise and useful data. Moving to focus on how to interpret this data while on the water, enabling you to identify and create effective fishing patterns. As part of the learning process, we will evaluate the data collected over the weekend, examining trends and insights that emerged. To conclude, an in-depth Q&A session will provide further information on best practices for recording data and offer personalized feedback to enhance your data management skills. This Walleye 101 approach ensures you understand not only the “why” but also the “how” of effective record-keeping in fishing.

To be eligible for a refund, cancellations must be received at least 30 days prior to the event. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations made less than 30 days before the event, due to the upfront costs and arrangements and deposits made in advance.
